FAR's Explained - Maintenance
by Kent Jackson
Fully revised in May 2008: Don't just know the FAR's; Understand them.
Includes FAA and legal interpretations of FAR Part 1, Part 21, Part 43, Part 65, Part 145, and Part 147. Intended to increase safety, the federal aviation regulations have become so complex that pilots have often found themselves saying "I know what it says, but what does it mean?" FARs Explained looks at FAR preambles, advisory circulars, actual court cases, and FAA chief counsel opinions, helping pilots understand the meaning and intent of the regulation and in understanding the regulatory "big picture".
For each regulation, the following is presented:
The regulation itself
An explanation of the regulation, (unless it is self explanatory)
the regulations intent, as noted in its preamble
Cross references to related regulations and advisory circulars
Location in the AIM where related information can be found
Case excerpts associated with the regulation
FAA chief counsel opinions
The authors have endeavored to select actual cases and opinions that represent common interpretations in order to describe the FAA's general position regarding each regulation and issue.
